Northwell Health in the US will deploy Abridge’s ambient AI platform across its 28 hospitals to improve clinical documentation of patient conversations as part of its digital transformation strategy.
This initiative aims to reduce the administrative burden on physicians while supporting one of the largest Epic Systems electronic health record deployments in the country.
Northwell serves more than three million patients annually and employs 22,000 nurses and 20,000 physicians in 1,000 outpatient facilities and hospitals in Connecticut and New York.
Abridge’s platform was selected for its scalability and ability to help physicians with different workflows as implementation progresses.
Kristin Myers, executive vice president and chief digital officer of Northwell Health, said: “As we transform healthcare delivery at scale, we are focused on how ambient AI can reshape the experience for both patients and physicians.
“By leveraging Abridge’s world-class technology and expertise, we ensure our transformation continues to focus on what matters most: improving patient care and supporting the physicians who deliver it.”
Abridge’s AI turns medical discussions into billable documentation during patient interactions.
The platform supports physicians in inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings and supports more than 28 languages and 55 medical specialties.
This year, Abridge will support doctors with more than 50 million medical conversations.
Northwell Health Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Chief Physician Jill Kalman said, “Physician wellness and resilience are one of the most critical issues facing healthcare today, and advancing it requires redesigning the way we work.
“The interaction between patient and physician is precious, and time is priceless. By reducing the burden of documentation, Abridge will help our physicians get back to what they do best: caring for our patients.”
