Christian Pulisic was forced to leave the US men’s national team’s 2-1 win over Australia during an international friendly on Tuesday, October 14, after appearing to aggravate his ankle injury.

Pulisic came into the match due to an ankle problem that first appeared in AC Milan’s pre-season, but was fit enough to start after playing the final 20 minutes of Friday’s 1-1 draw with Ecuador.

But the star forward’s night was over in the 31st minute when he left the field at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado.

Pulisic was slow to get up after a 15th-minute tackle from Australian defender Jason Geria, who appeared to favor his ankle. But the 27-year-old was able to continue – until another confrontation with Geria just 10 minutes later.

Pulisic turned Geria towards midfield with a great turn, and the defender clipped the attacker from behind to prevent an American break. When the referee gave Geria a yellow card, Pulisic remained on the ground.

After American coaches checked out Pulisic, the AC Milan forward was withdrawn from the match in favor of Diego Luna.

Pulisic was able to walk away under his own power, but looked visibly frustrated as he walked straight down the tunnel.

Jordan Bos put Australia ahead in the 19th minute, but Haji Wright equalized for the USMNT just two minutes after Pulisic left the field.
