Liverpool have spent a huge amount of money on their squad in 2025, with Arne Slot’s playing staff being revamped. It’s something they deliberately didn’t do in Slot’s first summer, but instead wanted to get a better idea of what he wanted.

This year we have seen the outcome of that. Liverpool broke their transfer record twice as they brought in new centre-forward options, new wing-backs and a new playmaker in Florian Wirtz.
The team now has a very different view on it and while there is certainly still a way to go before everything fits together, it all feels positive. But Liverpool is not done yet either.
There is certainly business to be had at center back, while the Reds haven’t touched their midfield since 2023. But that could all change next year.
Liverpool and Carlos Baleba
It is highly unlikely that Liverpool will make any more major additions in January. At least certainly not in midfield; we hope that is the case something done on the central defender.
The problem, of course, is that Liverpool will miss out on key targets if they choose to move in the winter. One player where that was a problem was Carlos Baleba.
According to Football Insider and other media, Liverpool are interested in Baleba. That shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, as the Brighton star has been one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League for some time now.
However, Manchester United hold him in high regard. They even offered back in August, but their offer went nowhere, but their interest remained.
Talksport is clear that a transfer will not take place in January, despite United wanting it to happen. Baleba will remain at Brighton until at least the summer, and that is exactly what Liverpool need to hear.
The midfielder will be on the market – to some extent at least – as Liverpool look for players. If they finally decide that Baleba is the one, he will wait.
