The Chiefs trade prediction lands a five-time Pro Bowl, perfect for Andy Reid’s offense

The Kansas City Chiefs could use some more strength in the running back room, as Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt have been disappointing as the key players in the position group.

There aren’t many high-quality running backs on the open market right now. However, CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin suggests the team should trade for New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara.

“Kamara may want to retire from the New Orleans Saints, but what if the reigning AFC champions call with an offer to join a potential Super Bowl bid?” Benjamin wrote.

Despite playing a terrible Saints offense, Kamara has still been productive this year. The five-time Pro Bowler has posted 314 rushing yards and 122 receiving yards with one touchdown through six games, while also averaging 3.8 yards per carry.

In 2024, Kamara racked up 1,493 scrimmage yards and eight total touchdowns. While the 30-year-old is no longer an elite running back, he can still provide plenty of production as a starter and be a difference-maker for a contender.

Acquiring Kamara would take a lot of pressure off quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ shoulder and add more versatility to Andy Reid’s offense. The 2017 third-round pick has added more than 1,100 scrimmage yards in each of his first eight seasons.

Kansas City does not have a sixth- or seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, general manager Brett Veach could trade one of the team’s fourth- or fifth-round picks for Kamara, who no longer has the highest trade value.

The Chiefs could take their offense to a new level by adding Kamara to the backfield. Giving up draft capital for an aging running back may not be the wisest move, but Kansas City is in win-now mode and Kamara immediately makes Reid’s team better.
